| Atlanta, GA (February 2008) – Hundreds of women law professionals and students from across the nation will attend the Third Annual Conference of the Leadership Institute of Women of Color Attorneys in Law and Business. The conference will take place March 12-14, 2008 at the Ritz Carlton Downtown. Mentoring will highlight the feature presentations designed to help participants develop critical skills needed to become leaders in the profession. The conference schedule has been designed to create networking and mentoring opportunities for women of color attorneys and law professionals. The Leadership Institute for Women of Color Attorneys was founded three years ago after a study by the American Bar Association revealed a startling rate of attrition from law firms by African-American, Asian-American and Hispanic-American women attorneys. A subsequent report on the study will be given at the 2008 conference. The Leadership Institute’s president, Marian Cover Dockery, Esq. says, “Women of color attorneys have made much progress since this report was released. This is in part, because the Commission report brought the problem to the attention of managing partners of law firms all over the country. The Leadership Institute hopes to assist these women so that the attrition rate continues to decline through training, mentoring and networking.” Dockery is hopeful the insight and guidance provided by established women law professionals to new and emerging women of color attorneys during this year’s conference will help turn that trend around. At least five scholarships will also be awarded during the conference, which is open to the public. For more information on the conference, or to register, log on to www. leadingwomenofcolor.org. |
